Geothermal Engineering Centre at St. Day

Wheal Fortune had an excellent time at the Geothermal Engineering Centre at St. Day. They were informed and inspired about the future of renewable energy and the chance of a career locally.

Working With Castaway Ropeworks

Years 3 and 4 had a fantastic day at Godrevy Beach. They had the opportunity to work with Castaway Ropeworks who retrieve and repurpose ghost gear (fishing equipment) into dog leads, dog toys, key rings, decorations and swings. They talked to children about ghost gear, it’s dangers and how they and others repurpose. The children also went on a middle hunt to obtain data for the Global Nurdle Hunt.
After lunch everyone made a jetting with ghost gear rope and some of their finds from the beach clean, including a plastic toy soldier. They concluded with a tug of war with repurposed rope and space hopper races on repurposed fishing buoys. Reusing plastic is fun!
Castaway commented on the excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and engagement of all our children. A great day all round!

Exploring our Local Environment

EYFS have had fun exploring our local environment. We have spent a lot of time at the church practising our Nativity. We spent some extra time there yesterday having a look at the layout and key features. Together we created a map for our Geography display. We used some fantastic adjectives and positional language

A Trip to St Ives

Wheal Kitty took a trip to St Ives this week. This linked with our topic ‘Visit Cornwall?’ We were on a geography field trip to discover why so many people visit Cornwall. We also managed to link our art and design topic by visiting the Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Tate Gallery.
